What are the signs a house needs to be repiped?
Repeated pinhole leaks, water that runs rusty or discolored after sitting, low pressure at several fixtures at once, and visible corrosion on exposed pipe. Galvanized steel supply lines, common in Southern California homes built before the 1970s, corrode from the inside and eventually fail throughout, which is why patching one leak is often followed by another somewhere else.
How do I know if I have a slab leak?
The usual signs are a warm spot on the floor, the sound of running water when every fixture is off, an unexplained jump in the water bill, or cracked and lifting flooring. Slab leaks are common in Orange County and other areas built on slab-on-grade foundations. Turn the water off at the main and call a plumber, since water under a slab damages the foundation the longer it runs.
